Ras Penco's breakout hit Be By My Side has popped up on a major R&B chart countdown show in Canada, a testament that Penco's new age brand of reggae is winning over a new generation of music fans. "I am pleased that the fans are loving my style of music and introducing a whole brand new generation to the reggae music," he said in a release. "The video for Be By My Side is getting play on MUCH Music TV in Canada, and last week, it peaked at number 8 on the top 100 R & B charts. The video is also in rotation on BET Jazz. It is following the trend of Thousand Miles Away which was on VH1, Bet Jazz, and so on but it has gone one better with this countdown in Canada. It is a major thing and I am very proud of this achievement."He performed at Unite the People in St Elizabeth last week and he is one of the headliners of Tarrus Bash in Chocolate Villa in Junction, St Elizabeth, later this month. Ras Penco is one of the front-runners of a new generation of reggae singers who infuse reggae with hints of R & B and soul. Born Reinford Woodburn and hailing from Riversdale, St Catherine, Ras Penco is living up to his nickname as the 'Mighty Warrior'. Ras Penco got his start in music when he was introduced to the Fifth Element family by singer Chuck Fenda. High-profile campPenco started working with Fifth Element in 2003, opening shows for reggae act Richie Spice locally and internationally. His first single, Go For Your Gold, produced by Fifth Element and released on the VP Records Label, got a great deal of international publicity. However, he took a sabbatical from the glare of the spotlight at such a high-profile camp, leaving Fifth Element in 2007 and inking a deal with Uprise Music in 2008. The Uprise Music label released A Thousand Miles Away to rave critical reviews and commercial success, and his international career was officially jump-started. And he has not looked back since.

"I am just growing from strength to strength right now," he said.

In the meantime, he is pushing ahead with new ventures, including a collaboration between Signature Entertainment and Ras Penco Music House to release three new singles, Your Love, Fire Burn and Waste No Time featuring New Jersey-based reggae artiste Latana. The songs are now available on iTunes, Amazon and other distribution websites.
